We will be closing at 5:00pm on December 24th and closed December 25th.
We will also be closing at 5:00pm on December 31st and closed January 1, 2010We understand that you all are knitting and crocheting frantically in time to get your holiday gifts done, so instead of a lot of articles that we don’t have time to read right now, we offer you our Year in Review in Photos:
One of the things I’ve enjoyed doing this year is making the Color Choice Basket, highlighting colors and fibers that mirror the rhythm of the seasons. Here are the highlights of 2009.
“Hi, this is Buddy, what’s your favorite color?”
Time to reflect...Late December is usually a time of reflection, so I asked the staff what their favorite project was to work on this year and why.
Carla: Gauntlets, gauntlets and more gauntlets. I did them as thank you gifts for all my secret owl-mirers and it gave me such a happy feeling while I was working on them to know they were going to keep one of my dear friends warm through the cold winter. I think I made in the neighborhood of 15 over the year and I loved every minute of it.
Charissa: My favorite project was my Wrenna sweater (Ravelry details). I loved the yarn, the pattern, everything. It was so fast and easy (the exact opposite of what I'm usually drawn toward), but I get more compliments on it than any other piece I've ever knit.
Kelli: The sweetheart top that I am working on now for my sister because I've been trying to get this right for so long and the project is finally, finally working out. I also loved the kippot I crocheted for all the little girls in Evan's class.
Monica: Holy cannoli, I so far have 42 Finished Objects for 2009. How am I supposed to choose? I've narrowed it down to four:
1) my Socrates hoodie, because the yarn is great to work with and it helped hone my seaming skills (a lace, fingering-weight full-size sweater knit up in pieces and it fit!);
2) my sunflower doll, because toys are fun to do, the Blue Sky cotton is awesome, and it turned out so dang cute;
3) my Ishbel, because the pattern is gorgeous and I used the Precious Yarn (Road to China Light. Will block one of these days so it's actually wearable!!); and
4) the hat I made for my cousin-in-law out of the Malabrigo Twist. The project itself is nothing exciting but the yarn knits up beautifully and has a great hand. Squishy soft (baby merino, people!).Yvonne: My favorite thing to knit in 2009 was the Pumpkin Scarf (aka the Scarf with a Wide and Handsome Border for a Mantel Drape from Weldon's, Series 6, Volume 2, 1887 by Jane Sowerby) and gave to my good friend Kim, who lives in NJ. It was a big step for me, in that it involved knitted lace (yarn-overs/K2togs on both sides), the edgings were done separately from the body and were knit in a different direction than the body. It was also a lot of fun to knit and was yarn from my first visit to the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival.
Anna: Smiling is my favorite. Seriously, my favorite project this year was my son’s sweater in 1824 Cotton. I’d chosen the yarn for this project long ago, before I even started working at Natural Stitches, with Melissa’s help. I love the colors, and I was proud of myself for doing even a little colorwork in the flat. And because Yvonne seamed it for me, I feel like it was a Natural Stitches group effort that my son can take with him throughout the day.
Teri: The red pea coat, albeit not because of the project or yarn. it was fascinating to observe people as they realized i can knit and follow instructions.
Martha: The two Christmas stockings I am frantically knitting for my newest Nephews. Ok, they were born in January but I'm such a procrastinator!
What was your favorite thing to make in 2009? Let us know on our blog!

Thank YouFrom Anna:
On a personal note, putting this newsletter together reminded me that it’s been a whole year since I took over writing and editing the newsletter. I am so grateful for you, our wonderful customers and readers, who have given such positive feedback via email or Ravelry, or mentioned how much you look forward to the newsletter when you visit the shop. It’s been so gratifying to be able to share my love of yarn with you all this year. Thank you!
From the entire staff of Natural Stitches, we wish you happy knits, creative crochets and splendid spinnings.
And, as always, if there's anything we can do to help, just let us know!
